I sometimes subscribe to a mailing list using something other than my usual
email address for sorting purposes. For example I might have subscribed to
this list as gnustep@bettis.org, or as jeremy+gnustep@bettis.org. Then in
my .procmailrc I can use that as a way to sort the messages into a different
mailbox. It becomes a hassle when the list does not allow outside posts,
and I forget which address I subscribed as.

So, I would suggest that the list not be closed, unless the level of spam
becomes more annoying. This list is not anywhere close to my biggest source
of spam, so it has not annoyed me yet. I like the idea of requiring that
the list address be in the To or CC lines. That seems to be a very low
impact solution that would block most of the spam and almost no legitimate
mails.
