That's correct.

It produces a working binary.

I tried to track down a list of the compiler optimizations that -O2
enables that -O1 doesn't, but I can't seem to find that list for the
compiler I'm using:

        Configured with: 
        Apple LLVM version 9.1.0 (clang-902.0.39.2)
        Target: x86_64-apple-darwin17.7.0
        Thread model: posix
