I see that too - I'm not sure why, but
this is not a good route to take - try MusicXML instead.
BTW version 1.1.0 is 19 releases out of dateĀ

instead - you don't have to install that - just put it anywhere, make
it executable and run it.
Denemo is mainly strong on entering music, import is only useful if you
have a large amounts of notes and durations already entered and want to
start from that.
