It seems there is a bug in the positioning of the cursor on mouse click:
it is positioning the cursor on an impossibly high ledger line of the
lowest clef when it should (obviously) be choosing a position in the
clef above. You can tell it is still in the wrong staff by the column of
ledger lines running up to the cursor.
 The work around is to use Ctrl-Down (control with down arrow) and
Ctrl-Up to move to the correct staff.
I'll look into how this is happening ... thanks for reporting the bug.
