Hi Richard

Thanks for your reply but sadly I'm none the wiser.

I'd be grateful if you  could explain step-by-step how I would do one or both of the following:

1 - Create a icon on the main denemo screen OR create a shortcut key that would switch the active notehead type so that every note entered afterwards has that notehead until I choose another

2 - How to select multiple notes and change all their noteheads in one stroke

I get the impression from your reply that 2 isn't possible but 1 is?

Thanks

Hi Dan - I saw you message yesterday but was on the road and so unable
to reply. But I did do some experimentation and had a look at

http://www.lilypond.org/doc/v2.18/Documentation/notation/common-notation-for-percussion

which shows the range of notations that are easily do-able.

I found that the Notehead types that Denemo supports are already
accessible by script, and so making a keypress that would change the
notehead of the note at the cursor is pretty trivial, and indeed
keypresses to put in a note with a certain notehead (which would just be
a script saying put in the note, change the notehead).
(For the techie folk listening in to this list the commands are like
this:

(d-ChangeNotehead "diamond")

and so on for other types).
And I notice there has been work in the past on percussion (look for
commands involving the word percussion in the View->Command Center), but
I think this was some ambitious undertaking that was never finished -
involving the user creating Drum Maps.

However, what I learn from the LilyPond documentation is that there are
many sorts of Drum notation, so I suspect you will only get what you
need (rapid entry of some particular notation) if you are able to
generate pictures of notation and descriptions of the MIDI code
sequences you want to create.

Denemo is eminently programmable - you can tell it to generate LilyPond
and MIDI and create a display that tells you what you have input, but
percussion is not well developed beyond a drum clef and the default
mapping of notes on the staff to the set of percussion sounds in the sf2
we ship as a small starter soundfont.

I'll be happy to help, as there are a lot of people who want various
sorts of percussion notation and one complete working example would be a
good start.
