The Voices menu is not present in the Simple profile - what's more we no
longer start with making the user choose a profile - too complicated to
maintain. You mention .denemo-0.9.7 which is for the latest versions (ie
from our development). These versions are recommended unless you are a
complete beginner (and unlucky to catch us on a bad day :)
But if you got that profile question at the start, then you were using
an old version - look for .denemo-0.9-6 or 4 or 2 to delete instead.

Anyway best is use 0.9.7 and set profile to "Arranger" (this is the
default if you newly install it).
0.9.7 currently has up-to-date templates for SATB choir and other choral
stuff - including a template that has the layout of two staffs (with two
parts to a staff) with the lyrics above and below the staffs + piano
accompaniment.

Nils' Composer profile has different keyboard shortcuts - the WASD
cursor moves, etc. You can get it via Edit->Preferences and then under
profile type Composer. But since Nils left the group it will be
suffering from bit-rot :(
The annoying tooltips are turned off via the Help menu command ("Turn
off excessive tooltips") and they can be further tuned via the
Preferences so that they take longer to pop-up, or never. But until you
understand what things are for, they will be very useful. Looking up
these preferences I see a bug - the tooltip timeouts are in the
Preferences->Miscellaneous tab while the excessive tooltip preference is
in the Command behavior one. I'll fix that now.
