[Denemo-devel] update or reinstall?

I downloaded Lilypond and Denemo via Synaptic, but both are older versions.
Is there a way I can update both via CLI? (using Ubuntu 10.10 Linux)
Or is it better to reinstall? (in which case I don't know the commands how to delete them first)

versions presently installed:
Denemo 0.8.10
Lilypond 2.12.3
