well, yes, I've heard of gdb.
But I wanted to use the 'fancy' features (ie: code viewing, data display)
of ddd - I just want to do it through a text display, that's all. I
also wanted to be able to debug php, etc. files.

well, there is exceed and cygwin on windows - and yes, that is not the
problem.
The problem is that - through the link that I'm using, there's no way
to do a 'setenv DISPLAY xxxx' and have the remote computer end up
displaying anything on the local machine.
Theoretically, I guess I could set up a 'ssh tunnel', but they frown on
that around here. Best I can do is 'ssh out' to the box to do support.
