As well, make sure that the binutils directory
(/u/rdsnfs5/t901353/local/bin)
is accessible in your PATH and is **before** the system directories.

Clearly, GNU ld is not found. Your PATH is therefore wrong. You should fix
that. Then rebuild gcc. Then build ddd.

The easier way is "./configure; make LIBXM=/usr/lib/libXm.a"
