Error starting ddd

I recently installed ddd on a linux host and I can't get the debugger to
start.  I keep getting the error message that it can't open the tty
/dev/pts/?.  I have tried editing the $HOME/.ddd/init file to turn
blockTTYInput off, but I still receive the same error.

Any help would be appreciated.
