I just did another fresh clone, and 'git fsck' is still complaining:

error in tag a6727941433ee1c91a20ede6cb381af1d18c566d:
missingSpaceBeforeDate: invalid author/committer line - missing space
before date

I honestly don't know what else to recommend; maybe it's time to turn to
the git developers to get their help.
