I just bootstrapped the chicken-core HEAD code (including the spotless
target) and could not reproduce the problem you report.
Maybe your build system is picking an old libchicken which has this bug:
http://bugs.call-cc.org/ticket/855
It seems to crash in the test case added just to catch that bug.
