Basically, async-io tests hang sometimes. To reproduce the issue, just
run the tests repeatedly until they hang.
It was making salmonella hang on the linux machines. I installed a hack
to kill the hanging test process after some time. Although the hack is in
place and working, salmonella runs take longer when the test process
hangs, as the hack polls to detect hanging processes.
