Hello,
usually I build my CHICKEN binaries from the darcs head and occasionally
I experiment with branches from the original CHICKEN source. I like the
functionality of darcs very much, but two things annoy me: First I
haven't managed to build my own darcs executable on MacOS X, because
compiling ghc and getting it to work seems to be a nightmare. Thus I'm
stuck with a huge static binary distribution of darcs which is not
perfectly up to date and takes ages to load everytime I type the darcs
command in my shell. Second the network performance of darcs is indeed
pretty poor.
This makes mercurial look like a good alternative from my point of view,
but I haven't fully evaluated the tool and I generally don't trust
software blindly, especially if it's still below version 1.0.0 ;-)
Wouldn't it be possible to run mercurial in parallel to darcs and
subversion for a while so that everybody who is interested could
evaluate it? If not I would rather keep the current system instead of
risking to break the existing smoothly running setup about which nobody
has complained so far ;-)
cu,
Thomas
