I've now put the Lua in place (separate but currently identical
implementations), and I've fiddled with alien to learn how to get at
the functionality I need; it's just a question of putting the pieces
together.
One nice thing I realised is that I can make the use of alien
optional: if you don't, for example, have libffi on your platform
(which alien requires), then you can just get a somewhat slower Zile.
