[Bug-zile] Progress report

I've made good progress in the last couple of days: I've finally got
the new buffer implementation working (a simple text string with a gap
at point, à la Emacs), and have gone on to squash the bugs Gary
recently found in master (thanks, Gary!). I have one outstanding bug
to fix (interactive negative args to universal-argument don't work),
and one other FIXME (I need to patch gnulib's copy_file_preserving to
return errors rather than aborting). Then, barring newly emerging
bugs, I'm ready to release a master branch alpha. We'll see how that
goes, but I hope it will lead to a stable release in fairly short
order, and meanwhile I aim to port the last couple of months of work
back to the Lua branch, and see if I can't push it closer to being
releasable.
