Try access ESP content. The first version (without APM) sees
(cd0,mdsos2) partition but cannot access content. The second one sees
three Apple partitions, only the first one has recognizable HFS+ filesystem.

As I said already, grub itself does not need ESP, it puts full content
on ISO which is accessible as unpartitioned device. But we do not know
if people do not rely on it (there were requests to make embedded
el-torito ESP accessible and this is exactly what happens now).
