it just works for me:
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/wget-1.16/
sudo chown $(id -u):$(id -g) /usr/local/wget-1.16
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/wget-1.16
make
make install
Can you please double check the permissions on the destination
directory?
