Seems like this thread has stalled, thanks Dominique for responding to this.
I wasn't expecting to find the 9p maintainer on this list and the resulting
conversation really helped me understand the nuances of the issue much better.

Given the hesitation to fstat in order to remove the O_NONBLOCK flag, are there
any objections to applying the patches sent in the original email? i.e. re-call
read until the full file has been read.
