Well, my simpler test (one tar command that will span multiple tapes) 
failed worse than before (that is, tar 1.19 seems to do worse than 
1.15).  I can see from the write that the file being written (or last 
written?) at the tape changes was g/20050421/20050421.121910.fts, and 
when the read gets to this:
