Yes, you did not explicitely specify a charset.  Using de_CH works
fine for me too, because it apparently defaults to be
de_CH.latin1, but using de_CH.utf8 makes it fail.  As far as I can
tell, It's not a problem with the language, but problem with the
charset/encoding being used.
