Thanks for the contribution.  Having variance as an aggregate is
certainly useful! :)

The patch looks good, but we will need:
- A ChangeLog entry.
- An addition for the manual, documenting this new function.
- A few tests exercising the aggregate.  See how it is done in
  torture/utils/recsel.sh for the other aggregates.

Also, please use unidiff format (pass -u to diff, or use git diff) when
submitting the patch.
