On my system, i have tested timeout(1) w/ the following two
scripts, both in /tmp and chmod +x:

t
Description: /tmp/t

r
Description: /tmp/r

When i invoke /tmp/t in the shell, it waits 5 seconds, as
expected (no problem).  What do you see?

$ timeout --version
timeout (GNU coreutils) 8.26
