Error reading partition table on a USB memory stick

I got the following error using parted.  It's not _really_ parted's fault - 
without the slightest idea what I was doing, I tried to make a boot sector on 
a USB memory stick and obviously corrupted it.  None of the partition 
programs seem to have a good idea what to do with it now :-)

address@hidden containing the version (1.6.20), and the following 
message:

at ../../libparted/disk_dos.c:578 in function probe_partition_for_geom() 
failed.
