Yesterday I noticed messages like the following appearing in my logs,
accompanied by delayed access to some log files:
Jan 14 10:16:08 www kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jan 14 10:16:08 www kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 {
UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=1803697, sector=823672
Jan 14 10:16:08 www kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda),
sector 823672
I hadn't been using the drive's SMART capabilities, but I enabled SMART
and ran a short test:
SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1
Num Test_Description Status Remaining
LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Short offline Completed: electrical failure 90% 6433
0x002da85d
I've used parted to mirror a drive before, but I wanted to ask for
suggestions on any additional steps i should take, being that this
drive is possibly damaged. What can I expect from copying my data to
another drive? Is corrupt data on the target drive likely?
