Hello,
I am new to parted so here goes.
I currently have three primary and one extended
partition. I need to steal 39 megs from partition
three. Currently my file system layout looks like:
(parted) print
Disk geometry for /dev/ida/c1d0: 0.000-8673.984
megabytes
Disk label type: msdos
Minor Start End Type Filesystem
Flags
1 0.016 99.609 primary ext3
boot
2 99.609 3665.625 primary ext3
3 3665.625 5665.781 primary ext3
4 5665.781 8673.984 extended lba
6 5665.812 7665.937 logical ext3
5 7665.953 8666.015 logical linux-swap
I need to create this new 39 meg partition as a
primary partition. So If I resize parition 3 to be 39
Megs smaller how can I create another primary
partition as I am at the limit for primaries correct?
So it seems to me I need to do a move operation or a
copy I am not sure which. It seems as though I can't
possible move partition 3 into the extended partition
as the extended already contains swap and my
/usr/local file system which accounts for all the
space in the extended partition. If anybody could give
me some insight into the sequence of steps in this
operation. I would greatly appreciate it.
