Hello,

i can't debug so i'll just report what occured and give you in attachment the
several commands i use hoping that they would be useful for you..

i'm using the 2.4.20-k6 kernel version and a testing debian.

i'm using the last version of parted ( i installed it yesterday ).

I resized a FAT32 partition ( /dev/hda1 ) with parted and i deleted /dev/hda2
with fdisk before toggling the fs into "Linux extended" (85) ..

i tried to mount /dev/hda2 on /mnt/futur_home with :

# mount -t ext2 /dev/hda2 /mnt/futur_home/

... but i got this message :

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda2,
or too many mounted file systems
(aren't you trying to mount an extended partition,
instead of some logical partition inside?)

so i thinked about making it a logical partition inside, but ...

Information: The operating system thinks the geometry on /dev/hda is
2434/255/63. Therefore, cylinder 1024 ends at 8032.499M.
(parted) print

/* i thought the warning message was normal as i read "Makes a file system
fs-type on partition minor, destroying all data that resides on that partition"
in parted documentation */

Illegal instruction
les-bonbons:/mnt# parted /dev/hda
Segmentation fault

please have a look on the attachment..

Just ask if you need more information

Best regards,

Arnaud M.
