This is an old version of Parted, but this bug still exists in new
versions... I don't know what is causing it.

It would be very useful if I could either:
 * get a complete file system image.  I have good internet access,
so scp'ing/whatever works fine for me.
 * be able to log in as root onto your machine, and play with the file
system.

The bug probably occurs before any writing is done, so I think I should
be able to do it by only opening the file system read-only.
