Exactly. WRT directory modes, I don't see any special reason to hide
directories, if parent directories are readable / executable. And if they
aren't, then the subdirectories aren't accessable anyway.
So either way, there is no security risk. (And it's not like you need to
protect parted's source, anyway)
BTW: I make the tarballs with "make dist". If you really want to argue this
out, I'd do it with the GNU automake people. This is not a Parted issue,
but a general "how to make tarballs" issue. Parted simply uses the "standard"
approach in the GNU/Linux world.
