I suspect the problem is related to your environment, so also follow
the part mentioning VirtualBox.
In particular: I suspect you are doing something with /mnt/l that you
are not telling us, and we need to know if that has any effect on the
outcome.
You need to assume that I am sitting with a completely blank computer
with no OS, and that you have to show me how to reproduce the error.
So please follow the reporting procedure strictly.
