I seem to remember I even copied the locking code from a Perl-man page
to make sure I got it right.

I just found http://search.cpan.org/~bbb/File-NFSLock-1.20/lib/File/NFSLock.pm
which might help. I will not have time to look at it for the next few
weeks, though.
