apparent bug in oleo 1.99.16

I'm running gcc 2.7.2 on a Sun Ultra 10 with Solaris 2.7.  I tried installing
oleo without nls support (there's a declaration problem for gettext() between
/usr/include/libintl.h and src/io-term.c).  When I tried to run oleo, I got:

GBSplash: XpmCreatePixmapFromData failed. giving up, can't get close colors
Error in the builtin init scripts (a bug!).

I have Xpm version 4.7.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
