What is needed to apply a patch for Ncurses 6.2

Hi Everyone,

I have the Ncurses 6.2 release tarball. It is unpacked and I am in the
root directory of the files.

I then download the patch ncurses-6.2-20200613.patch.gz and unpack it.
So I am in the root directory with ncurses-6.2-20200613.patch.

Next I try to apply the patch:

    patch -u -p0 < ncurses-6.2-20200613.patch

which results in an error.

The head of the patch, README and INSTALL don't discuss the commands
needed to apply the patches.

What is the exact command needed to apply the patch?
