I am trying to build ncurses-5.5 on an Ubuntu 6.06 system and getting the
following error:

make[4]: Entering directory `ncurses/work/ncurses-5.5/Ada95/gen'

gcc -I. -I../../include -I -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -O2 gen.o
-Wl,-rpath,ncurses/work/ncurses-5.5/lib -L../../lib -lncurses -o gen

hmm - that says "5.5", but could be some patch date.

I revisited rpath in August, found it wasn't working, and made
some fixes. It seemed fine for "5.6" from last fall.

/usr/bin/ld: warning: libc.so.0, needed by ../../lib/libncurses.so, not
found (try using -rpath or -rpath-link)
/usr/bin/ld: gen: hidden symbol `stat64' in
/usr/lib/libc_nonshared.a(stat64.oS) is referenced by DSO
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[4]: *** [gen] Error 1

What is going wrong?
