Well, it is not *too* difficult. So far I only have to use a compatibility
header defining some functions not present in 1.4 and declaring wrappers
for those that have changed between 1.4 and current branch. It could of
course be continued, if I were sure it is worth the effort. So,
basically, what I wanted to know is whether 1.4 is still being used and
what are its technical advantages over the current branch.
