Mike, was your patch on Jan 10 a serious one?  I'm not certain where we  
stand on this particular issue... I suspect that various other changes  
(especially Keith's work on 1472) may change this.  And you're doing  
fantastic work on issue 37 right now, so I don't want to distract you by  
getting back into this issue.
And I also see that the patchset included a fix for 37, which I know has  
changed drastically over the past few weeks.

I'm going to mark the patch "needs work" for now, and when other stuff  
settles down, you can either revise this patch, or just put it on  
codereview.
