I know that feeling; I had that with RPG mailing lists :)

I thought so (wouldn't have written the sentence if I had been a mentor, but 
since I was just a bystander, I could write exactly what I think. 

You *did* (and do) great work!

I hope people will come this week, so we know who's still active.

I saw that, but I asked myself "What part of the information should people 
remember who just skim that page?" 

The answer I found was: 

* The Hurd is moving forward.
* Google Summer of Code 2008 was a great success (there were several 
interesting and uccessful projects)!
* GSoC increased the pace of the Hurd, so it will be moving even faster. 
* Participation in the Hurd has a big impact. 

In short: "The Hurd is active and rapidly improving - and your contribution 
will have a big effect."

Since I believe that myself, and since it is part of the information in the 
paragraphs (just not shown prominently), this is just plain honest PR: "Show 
your strengths, else you betray people about yourself"

But before I go on, I've got an important question: 

Is it OK for you (or do you want me to) try to get the Hurd PR a bit more 
effective?
