Hi,
the documentation of all Mathieu functions with natural prototypes
(gsl_sf_mathieu_a, etc.) has the wrong return type (int):
int gsl_sf_mathieu_a(int n, double q)
The correct return type as can be seen in gsl_sf_mathieu.h is double.
