Aaah .. in that case I should probably have specified that it's version
3.4.4 of gcc. (The complete output of 'gcc -v' is reproduced below my sig.)
It may also be relevant that I built gsl as a static library.

Thanks for that ... I can now report that none of those remaining tests
failed.
