Follow-up Comment #1, bug #60565 (project grub):
(I accidentally submitted without a body.)
If I
1. Download one of the latest NixOS unstable ISO images, e.g.
https://releases.nixos.org/nixos/unstable/nixos-21.05pre287333.63586475587/nixos-minimal-21.05pre287333.63586475587-x86_64-linux.iso
2. Burn it to an USB/DVD and boot it *in EFI mode*
I get dropped in a GRUB shell (prompt "grub>"). If I type "ls (hd0,msdos2)"
(where hd0 is the USB stick), I get an error like "No known filesystem
detected" where there should be a FAT32 filesystem.
This doesn't happen with GRUB 2.04. For comparison, here is a similar image
with 2.04 instead of 2.06-rc1:
https://releases.nixos.org/nixos/unstable/nixos-21.05pre273435.0aeba64fb26/nixos-minimal-21.05pre273435.0aeba64fb26-x86_64-linux.iso
The bug seems to be hardware-specific. I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad T420, and
someone else was able to reproduce the bug on a T420.
