I sent promised patch -

You want (and if You have enough courage to try it on machine with important
data... :-) )
You should load EHCI driver, i.e. You should issue
insmod ehci
command.
After that Your USB keyboard should be still alive and if You connect FTDI
serial converter, it (maybe) will work - if GRUB FTDI driver is suitable also
for real HW.
