Grub in Ubuntu 7.04

Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my IBM ThinkPad T41p from the live CD and when 
it tells me to restart the computer
without the live CD it says:
GRUB Loading stage1.5


GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 17
I installed Ubuntu so that it could dual-boot with Microsoft Windows XP, but 
now GRUB isn't working and I'm without a
computer.
I found this e-mail from the help section on the Ubuntu live CD.
I have tried to follow instructions from online forums but none have succeded.  
I am thinking of installing Super Grub
Disk whitch from what I understand is an alternative to GRUB.
