Details:

When I complie grub on my debian AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ the resulting code
has problems. For example I get incorrect error numbers like:

grub> savedefault
Error 0: Unrecognised command

or Error 183320: File not found

when I try tab compleation on

root (h<tab>
I get (hd128) instead of (hd0)

I'm using gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)

Here are some lines from config.log:
build='i686-pc-linux-gnu'
build_cpu='i686'
host='i686-pc-linux-gnu'
host_cpu='i386'

If I try forceing these with:
 ./configure --build=i386 --host=i386

It's the same.

I have built many things on this box so I think the tool chain is ok. So for
what it's worth there it is...

     Thanks,
     Clif
