grub-0.97-x86_64 patch

Hello,

I applied the following patch http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?17963 
to make GRUB 0.97 recognize and boot an x86_64 elf image.

On i386 GRUB builds fine but on x86_64 i get an error (shouldn't 
it be the other way around?!). This is it:

I check config.log and the reason that makes configure fail is this:

I have automake1.10, autoconf2.61 and gcc4.1.2. Can anyone help 
please?
