Hello
I`m trying to help a friend booting his old multi disk pc with several IDE and
SCSI hard disks. He got win98 on his /dev/hda and /dev/sda. Using the automatic
Linux installation in SuSE the GRUB is installing itself. Restarting the PC
with the GRUB shell booting win98SE is no problem but logging in for linux is
refused:
first is shown a diagram pstk 0: 1df.9 1: 307d.5 err 1 ip 30d3: rstk
30d3.5
ignoring that information I´ve got a grub command menu as I got when I
installed grub myself years ago SuSE didn`t use grub. The command lines are
just same as in SuSE linux /boot/grub/menu.lst but without it`s colorful
gfxmenu. Getting on with affirmation to boot linux it end up with folowing
command lines:
cannot open root device "sdb2" or 08:12
kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root on 08:12
please append a correct "root" = boot option
you may want to retry boot with pci=noacpi or acpi=oldboot on the command line.
The boot device is on /dev/hdb1, root on /dev/sdb2.
Trying to start grub via grub-boot disk using the command find /boot/grub/stage
1 is "file not found".

Can you give me a hint to find my solution ?
