GRUB e1000 patch problems

Hi List,

I downloaded James Scott's e1000 patch from
http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grub/2003-03/bin00004.bin
I compile GRUB with --enable-e1000 --enable-diskless.

The resulting pxegrub is then passed to booting clients via dhcp/tftp.
Those Clients are Desktop Computers with Onboard Intel PRO/1000 CT
Ethernet Adaptors (at least that is what Windows XP tells me about
them.) When GRUB gets bootstraped it gives me:

Probing ...[E1000]e1000: Could not identify hardware
No ethernet card found.

Then I tried installing a patched sourcepackage which I found @
http://ftp.hard-mofo.dsvr.net/grub-e1000/. I think this is a CVS
Version of GRUB with the patch applied. Now this gives me:

Probing ...[E1000]The PCI BIOS has not enabled this device!
Updating PCI command 0106->0107. pci_bus 00 pci_device_fn 00
PCI latency timer (CFLT) is unreasonably low at 0. Setting to 32
clocks.
e1000: Unknown MAC Type
No ethernet card found.

Could you please tell me a way to get arround this? I can't really
tell you alot about the NICs except that they are onboard Intel GB
NICs. Linux is not installed locally, because I plan to boot 
remotely. I could however install Linux locally on one of the
computers if that would make a difference when it comes to analyzing
the problem.
