garbled display

Hello,

I recently installed RH7.3 on my laptop.  When grub starts it puts up the
menu display which is garbled.  The splash screen looks fine, but when the
text is displayed it is unintelligable.

I had a similar problem when X first came up.  When I changed the bits per
pixel from 24 to 16 the problem cleared itself up.  Do you suppose grub
is having the same problem?  If that is possibly it, how do I change that?

Any other ideas?  -thanks.
