Here is another solution - might be a nasty one, though!

I use explore2fs on windoze to ONLY READ ext2(3) partitions.
But explore2fs is also capable of writing ext2 - but as
considered DANGEROUS by the developers I never tried it (it's
not activated by default).
If you have a boot-partition you could keep a backup of this on
another partition and _keep a bootable media or two (they
usually break when you need them, don't they?) at hand_ and
give it a shot... seems to be the easiest way to me, but
propably the most dangerous one, too - but only for your
standard-boot-partition, so no big loss ;)
