Hanging at GRUB_

Hello,
I have been using GRUB for a little over a month now for booting between Red 
Hat Linux 7.2 and Windows XP.  However, now when I start up my system, it 
hangs at the word "GRUB" and never gets into the menu.  I have read some of 
the questions concerning this and just about all of the people have been 
able to resolve this issue, but I am quite a novice to this (I only 
installed Red Hat and GRUB so I could get some of my school work done 
because this is what we use on campus).  So, I was hoping someone could give 
me an in-depth explanation on how to fix this so I can get the machine 
running properly again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
