Hello Pavel,

I have a couple of questions. Can you tell me if grub is a bootloader or a
boot manager? I am running ming 1.1 and the grup 0.91. I believe they are
both current. My goal is to be able duel boot w2k/FreeBSD and possibly
adding linux. I am pretty new to this stuff, so I don't really understand
the info in the documentation I have. Do you know where can I find something
that could make it easier to understand?

Thanks so much,

Brian

I remember that I tried this and gave up, but maybe you will be more
successful.

Do you have grep or egrep? Copy it to fgrep, it should be better than not
to have fgrep at all. It may even work correctly.

I remember having this problem. Compile some program to assembler using
"gcc -S" and find the name of the label at the beginning of the code.
Then change grub_CHECK_USCORE_START_SYMBOL macro in acinclude.m4 to look
for that symbol instead of _start. Run aclocal and autoconf to regenerate
configure.

Now configure should work. I thing that "make" will also work. At very
least you should be able to compile the GRUB shell (grub.exe) by running
"make -k". If you manage to compile the stage* files be careful and try
them from the floppy first. I remember that they had some extra zeroes.

If you have any questions please specify versions of GNU GRUB and MinGW.
Make sure you are using the latest versions of both.

What are you trying to achieve? Do you only want the GRUB shell or the
binary stages as well? I believe that without fixing some internals in
MinGW (proper _start label, moving all those zeroes to a separate section)
you can only get the GRUB shell.
